- Stellarium

- Loss of the Night
This app lets you become a citizen scientist to measure light pollution in your area. There is also a website called My Sky at Night for visualizing your data.
- Orbit
Play with gravity and see if you can get planets to orbit black holes. Super fun and free! This app is only available for Android devices.
- Sky Safari 6
The free version lets you explore the night sky on your phone. If you pay, it'll also control your telescope for you!
- Star Chart and SkyMap
Both of these apps act as planetariums for your phone. If your phone has a built-in compass, both apps will calibrate to the Earth's magnetic field. Then you can point your phone at the sky and the app will tell you what you're looking at!

These are great for keeping track of the best times to observe the moon (or observe deep sky objects, when it's better to have no moon). Here is an app for Android and one for iPhone.
