NOTICE OF ACCLAMATION
The Nominating Committee presented the following candidates for the Elective Offices and as no further nominations were received by April 29th, 1980, (60 days prior to the Annual Meeting), these have been elected by acclamation:

To all Members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada
Notice is hereby given of a Special General Meeting of the Members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada to be held on Sunday, June 29th, called for the purpose of sanctioning the by-laws of the Society enacted by the Council at a meeting held March 29, 1980, as follows:
| By-Law No. 6 Life Membership |
"Be it enacted by the Council of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and it is hereby enacted as By-Law No. 6 of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (herein called the Society) as follows: That Article No. 9 of By-Law No. 1 is hereby repealed and the following paragraph is hereby enacted in substitution therefor: "On or before the 15th day of January in each year, the Treasurer of the Society shall remit to the Treasurer of each Centre an amount equivalent to the amount that the Centre is entitled to retain from an Ordinary Membership Fee for every Life Member of the Society who shall, as of the preceding December 31, be a Life Member attached to that Centre". |
| By-Law No. 7 Alternate Representatives |
"Be it enacted by the Council of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and it is hereby enacted as By-Law No. 7 of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (herein called the Society) as follows: "If any of the elected Representatives from a Centre, or ff any of the Alternate Representatives from a Centre elected at the Centre's annual meeting, is unable to attend a meeting of the National Council, the Council of that Centre is empowered to appoint additional Alternate Representatives from among the Members of that Centre in good standing, it being the responsibility of the Centre's Council to provide the National Council with a letter of introduction authorizing the Alternate appointed by the Centre's Council to represent the Centre as a voting member of National Council". |
| By-Law No. 8 Youth Membership |
"Be it enacted by the Council of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and it is hereby enacted as By-Law No. 8 of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (herein called the Society) as follows: "To delete the word "Student" each time it occurs before the word member and to substitute therefor in each case the word "Youth"." |
ADDENDUM
The following changes to the by-laws of the Society were enacted by Council. To be effective these amending by-laws must be sanctioned by an affirmative vote of at least two-thirds of the members present in person or represented by proxy at a meeting of members and must then be approved by the Ministry of Consumer and Corporate Affairs.

COMPOSITION OF THE COUNCIL:
The Council consists of all officers elected in with the provisions of the By-Laws, the two immediate Past-Presidents one representative of each Centre of the Society for the first 200 members of that Centre or portion thereof, and one further representative for each additional 200 members or portion thereof, which representatives shall be elected at the annual of that Centre. NOTE ON CANDIDATE FOR THE OFFICE
OF PRESIDENT:
IAN HALLIDAY, A native of Saskatchewan, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the R.A.S.C. on graduation from the University of Toronto in 1949 and later received M.A. and Ph.D. degrees, also from Toronto. He was a staff member of the Dominion Observatory from 1952 to 1970 and is now with the Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics of National Research Council Canada in Ottawa. Research interests have included meteor spectroscopy, meteorite craters, meteorite recovery and the diameter of Pluto. From 1964 to 1975 he was Assistant Editor and then Editor of the JOURNAL of the R.A.S.C. Dr. Halliday is a member of other astronomical societies, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and recently served as President of the International Astronomical Union's Commission on Meteors and Interplanetary Dust (1976-79) and as Chairman of N.R.C. 's Associate Committee on Astronomy (1977-80).
NOTE ON CANDIDATE FOR THE OFFICE
OF 1ST. VICE-PRESIDENT:
FRANKLIN LOEHDE, native of Edmonton, Alberta, is a High School Administrator and Science Educator. Mr. Loehde has been a member of/he Society for 28 years, Pest-President of the Edmonton Centre, is presently the Centre representative to National Council. He was Chairman of the organizing committee for the first General Assembly held in western Canada (1962), and has received the Society's Service Medal in 1976. In addition, through public star-nights, through his long- time Chairmanship of the Edmonton Regional Science Fair, and by his authorship of a chapter on astronomy in the book Alberta: A Natural History (a provincial centennial project) he has tried to encourage an interest in science in general, in astronomy in particular, among students and the general public. Mr. Loehde was involved in establishing Edmonton's first public Planetarium and now its newest public Planetarium.

OF 2ND. VICE-PRESIDENT:
ROY L. BISHOP, native of Wolfvii!e, Nova Scotia, a graduate of Acadian University, obtaining his B.Sc; his Master's degree is from McMaster University and his Ph.D. (1969) in (Physics) is from the University of Manitoba. Dr. Bishop is Head, Department of Physics at Acadia University. He is a of the Society, Chairman of the Historical Committee of the R.A.S.C., Past- President of the Halifax Centre and has served on the Executive Committee of the National Council and as the Halifax Centre representative to National Council. Dr. Bishop is interested in Education, Optics and Vision and the History of Astronomy; sailing and stargazing.
