ARTHUR M. CROOKER (1909-1990) was born at Cayuga, Ontario, received his BA from McMaster University and then proceeded to his M.A. and Ph.D. at Toronto under J.C. McLennan and to further post-graduate work in England. From 1937 until his retirement, he was on the faculty of the Physics Department at UBC, except for the War years, 1941-45, when he was in Toronto in charge of Optical Design at Research Enterprises. In the 1970's he was an NRC Research Associate at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Centre.

Crooker joined the RASC in Toronto in 1934, and transferred to Vancouver Centre three years later. He held many offices in the Centre including the Presidency in 1951, and often spoke at meetings and gave instruction with telescopes. He was helpful in getting the University to waive charges for the Centre's use of campus facilities for meetings, and in 1981, donated a 41 cm f/6.3 mirror to the Centre. He received the RASC Service Award in 1965.
