Dimitar Sasselov is a co-investigator on NASA's Kepler mission with the goal of discovering potentially habitable Earth-like planets. Kepler searches for the dimming of starlight as a planet transits across the star's disk. This simple and elegant method has led to a bounty of newly discovered planets. Come and enjoy an evening at the forefront of astronomical research.

The Helen Sawyer Hogg Public Lecture was initiated in 1985 by the Canadian Astronomical Society and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada in recognition of the sustained and diverse contributions of Helen Sawyer Hogg to public appreciation of the universe around us.
