In 1879, the Rev'd Dr. Alfred Sommer published one of the earliest lunar maps by an astronomer (amateur or professional) working in Canada, bearing a Canadian imprint. It appears in The New Dominion Monthly of January, 1879, 58-79 (between pages 56 & 65 - this was, incidentally, the valedictory issue of the publication). This map may, in fact, be the earliest published lunar map of Canadian origin printed in a Canadian publication. A rare copy is in the RASC Archives.
